BOƘISLAVKA - FLAT

BRIEF:

The interior of a 62 m² apartment with a 3+1 layout in Prague’s Vokovice district was designed for a young family with small children that is gradually growing. The aim of the design was to create a new functional layout that allows comfortable shared everyday living for the entire family while also providing each member with space for individual activities.

CONCEPT:

The key layout intervention was the connection of the originally separate small kitchen with the living room. By removing the partition wall, a larger open-plan living space was created, allowing the family to spend time together without dividing the apartment into inefficient and cramped rooms. The newly created area provides space for a larger dining table, a fully equipped kitchen with open shelves intended, for example, for coffee preparation, a rounded corner bar, as well as a compact pantry for food storage.

The connection between the kitchen and living room enables the creation of several clearly legible zones – from a relaxation area with a television, through the dining area and kitchen, to a bookshelf and a children’s play corner. Individual activities can take place simultaneously without interfering with one another, while maintaining an overview of what is happening throughout the space. The kitchen is designed in a neutral combination of sand-toned laminate and oak veneer, while the living area is complemented by a modular convertible sofa in muted shades of grey or dark green.

In the entrance hallway, a generous wardrobe is designed with an integrated corner niche for hanging coats and a seating area for putting on shoes. The opposite wall conceals space for a washing machine and additional storage, solved with custom-built furniture. Mirrors are used to visually enlarge the smaller hallway. The flooring is considered either as a more expressive decorative tile with variable laying options, or in a calmer version of large-format grey tiles, terrazzo, or concrete screed.

Two layout variants are proposed for the bathroom. The first combines the bathroom and WC into a single space with a generous walk-in shower, allowing for larger storage cabinets and more comfortable circulation. The second variant retains the existing layout but introduces a newly designed shower area and supplements the WC with a small washbasin and storage cabinet, ensuring the space meets contemporary living requirements.

The material and colour palette of the design is based on a timeless combination of white and sand-coloured surfaces, light grey finishes, and oak wood. The neutral base is complemented by subtle pastel accents in shades of green and light yellow, appearing mainly in details and accessories.
