CHOCHY HAIR SALON

BRIEF:

The task was to design the interior of a hair salon with an area of approximately 40 m², including two cutting stations, a washing unit, a calm lounge zone, and a technical room with a changing area. The space is located in a former laundry room, with the main source of daylight provided by a ceiling skylight with glass blocks above the cutting area.

CONCEPT:

The design is based on the slightly industrial atmosphere of the original space. A key step was unifying all floors into a single material – polished cemflow in a light grey tone – which visually connects individual zones and creates a calm, neutral base for the interior.

Upon entering the salon, visitors pass a technical room hidden behind a curtain and arrive at an elevated lounge zone with a sofa and a small kitchenette. The lounge functions as a resting point of the space, offering visual oversight of both the washing and cutting areas. The character of the salon is reinforced by the CHOCHY neon sign suspended on a white wire grid and a backlit strip of glass blocks, which runs through the interior as a unifying motif.

The washing area is located a few steps lower and is clad in glossy white ceramic tiles. It includes a galvanized shelving unit for towels, washing supplies, and storage. The opposite color bar follows the material logic of the worktops and is designed with increased resistance to color pigments in mind.

The brightest part of the salon is the cutting area, dominated by a large-format mirror. Beneath it sits a subtle stainless-steel console with a concealed bin for cut hair. A golden circular mirror and a backlit glass-block bench act as visual accents, allowing the space to remain softly illuminated even outside active operating hours.

MATERIALS AND LIGHTING:

The basic material palette consists of cinnamon-toned laminate, stainless steel sheet metal, white ceramic tiles, and glass blocks, which appear consistently throughout the interior. Curtains hung on painted steel rods soften the technical character of the space. Lighting combines industrial fluorescent fixtures, ambient lighting in the washing zone, shelf backlighting, and illuminated glass-block elements.
