SOMEONE IS WATCHING..
BRIEF:
The task was to create a unique Christmas installation in a form that does not commonly appear in the context of traditional Christmas decorations.
CONCEPT:
During the month of December and the associated Christmas season, the installation Pusinky (Someone Is Watching..) was created. The intention was to approach the Christmas theme in a completely different way – to use the expected, almost clichéd motif of sweets, in this case meringues, and place it within an unexpected, shifted context.
Snow-white meringues were attached to white branches so that they resembled a tree from which small edible “fungi” grow. The branches were then suspended on a structure wrapped in paper, giving the whole installation the character of a small, intimate, white sugar-like room.
Small, seemingly inconspicuous “windows” were cut into the outer shell of the installation, allowing visitors to peek inside and taste the sweets. Due to their irregularity and varying sizes, however, the visitor gradually becomes aware of the possibility that during this intimate act they themselves might be observed. This moment evokes a slightly unsettling, ambiguous feeling, or alternatively offers the opposite position – becoming the observer and catching someone else in the act, thus opening up a layer of voyeurism.
Thanks to the fact that the entire object with the meringues is wrapped in delicate translucent paper, the installation resembles a lantern when illuminated. The light simultaneously highlights and reflects the structures and motifs created by the inner composition, allowing the visual effect of the installation to shift depending on lighting conditions and the viewer’s movement.
