FAMILY HOUSE – ŽĎÁR

BRIEF:

The project focuses on the interior design of a rural house in Žďár, complemented by a garage concealed within a barn structure and a wellness area. The house is intended for a young family of four, with the prospect of future permanent living. The project builds upon a study prepared by architect Miroslav Němeček and includes both interior design and commentary with recommendations for adjustments to the existing concept of the house and its exterior.

EXTERIOR CONCEPT:

Interventions in the exterior focus on sensitive integration of the house into the rural context and work with traditional materials. The redesign of the fence along the street frontage restores the dominant role of wood, characteristic for the area. The sandstone base is preserved, while the fence posts are designed to be more subtle, combining metal and wood. The fencing concept also includes new tree planting, naturally separating the house from the road and ensuring long-term privacy.

Minor terrain adjustments are also proposed to allow comfortable vehicle access to the main entrance. The driveway is designed using natural gravel or compacted aggregate with discreet steel edging. The surroundings of the house are complemented by a circular path of stone stepping stones and paving, combined with perennial planting requiring minimal maintenance.

The façade works with a light-tinted plaster in an off-white tone, complemented by a subtle plinth. Vertical plaster profiling in the gable remains as a distinctive detail. Stone cladding at the entrance is replaced by a wooden element with an integrated bench and storage. The original character of the house is reinforced by casement windows with sage-green stained shutters. New large-format windows are designed in a combination of wood and aluminium and complemented by sliding wooden shading towards the terrace.

The terrace has been extended for comfortable family use and complemented by a wooden pergola with fabric shading, an outdoor grill, and lighting. The terrace surface consists of smooth wooden boards made of durable timber, allowing for natural ageing. A second terrace connected to the wellness area includes a cooling tub and a fire pit, accessed via stone stepping stones.

Overall, the exterior combines traditional rural elements with a more contemporary expression, creating a modern interpretation of a country house while respecting the original character of the place.

INTERIOR CONCEPT:

The interior follows the basic layout of the house, complemented by minor adjustments to the placement of windows, doors, and the staircase to improve functional logic. The modifications respond primarily to the operation of the kitchen, technical systems, and ventilation, as well as to smooth movement between the entrance area, living space, and upper floor.

The material concept of the interior is based on a combination of wood, stone, light concrete screeds or terrazzo, and subtle earthy cream tones. These are reflected in built-in furniture, wall finishes, textiles, and loose furnishings.
