LOFT PALMOVKA
BRIEF:
The aim of the project was to design a fully functional and generous kitchen within a loft apartment in Palmovka, meeting the standards of rental housing at the time of realization. The kitchen was conceived as an integral part of the main living space and designed to respond to the open-plan character of the apartment.
CONCEPT:
The original small corner kitchen was replaced by a generous L-shaped kitchen that becomes the dominant feature of the interior. By removing part of an existing partition wall and relocating the kitchen to the opposite side of the space, the kitchen and living area were successfully merged into one open, continuous whole.
An unused doorway was closed and repurposed as a dining area. This intervention also freed up space in the hallway for built-in wardrobes, allowing the washing machine to be integrated there rather than occupying valuable space in the small bathroom.
The material concept is based on a combination of a white MDF and laminate kitchen with the apartment’s distinctive wooden elements – flooring, staircase, and exposed ceiling beams. Towards the living area, the kitchen gradually “dissolves” into a work corner with a bookcase and additional storage. The result is a cohesive, airy composition that naturally fits the loft character of the apartment.
