BARRANDOV - FLAT

BRIEF:

The interior design of an apartment in a new residential development in Barrandov responds to the need to create a functionally and visually balanced home with an emphasis on a shared daytime living area. The 4-room apartment with a kitchenette and a total floor area of 113.9 m² is complemented by a 28.1 m² terrace, which naturally extends the living space. The brief also included the design of sufficient storage capacity and solutions for the bedroom, entrance hall, home office, and the outdoor living terrace.

CONCEPT:

As the project is located within an already completed new building, the design focuses primarily on custom-made built-in furniture and carefully selected furnishings that give the space a clear order and a cohesive expression. A unified concept runs throughout the entire apartment, connecting individual rooms into a harmonious whole.

The central element of the interior is the kitchen, seamlessly connected to the living room and dining area. The kitchen is designed along the full length of one wall of the living space and is complemented by a kitchen island that expands the working surface, serves as an alternative seating area, and gently separates the kitchen from the living zone. The island fulfills not only a practical but also a representative function and acts as a strong spatial accent. Its surface is designed either in glossy white ceramic tiles or in artificial stone in a light grey-white finish inspired by terrazzo or marble. Above the island, a designer light fixture in a gold finish is installed, accompanied by bar stools.

The living room is further divided into dining and relaxation zones, subtly separated by a bookshelf. In addition to its storage function, the bookshelf responds to the large number of window openings in the space, which limit the use of conventional solid walls.

A distinctive feature of the entrance area is a built-in box in the hallway, finished in wood veneer. This volume integrates storage spaces and circulation routes while acting as a natural filter between the apartment entrance and the main living area. The material treatment of the box continues into other parts of the interior and helps visually unify the entire space.

In the bedroom, emphasis is placed on a calm atmosphere and maximum functionality. The room is equipped with built-in wardrobes offering ample storage capacity and complemented by a simple, timeless material palette that supports a sense of privacy and rest.

The living area flows naturally onto the terrace, which is designed as a fully functional extension of the apartment. Outdoor seating and dining furniture are recommended, complemented by custom-made planters with permanent ornamental grass planting, suitable for the terrace’s southeast orientation. The concept also includes the design of appropriate shading, increasing comfort throughout the day.

Material-wise, the interior is based on a restrained combination of white surfaces and light wood, supporting the timeless character of the design and allowing for long-term sustainability.
