 PARDUBICE - FLAT

BRIEF:

The interior project of an apartment in a new residential building in Pardubice was designed for a young family of three. The aim of the design was to create a functional and playful home with sufficient storage capacity, responding to the specific layout of the apartment while offering flexibility for future changes.

CONCEPT:

The main challenge of the design was working with the pre-defined walnut-patterned flooring. This element became the key motif of the interior and, in combination with white surfaces, formed a unified color scheme. The principle of extending the flooring material into vertical furniture surfaces is applied throughout the apartment and contributes to its overall cohesion.

The entrance hallway is designed as a practical storage zone with a bench, coat hooks, a low shoe cabinet, and shelves. Built-in wardrobes are placed in the wider section, while a recessed niche accommodates the technical area with a washing machine, dryer, and storage shelves. This zone can remain open or be concealed with a sliding partition.

The children’s room works with the motif of a raised platform that conceals pull-out beds and storage spaces. The upper level serves as a multifunctional area for playing, reading, and sleeping and can be complemented by a protective net. Alternatively, a simpler version without the platform is also considered. The solution responds to the narrow, elongated shape of the room and aims to utilize it to the maximum.

The bedroom is conceived as calm and restrained. It is equipped with built-in wardrobes, a long bedside table with storage drawers, and a reading corner. A subtle accent can be created by wallpaper behind the headboard.

The living room with kitchen is designed as an open and airy space. The L-shaped kitchen provides ample storage capacity and combines tall cabinets with delicate open shelving. The living area is complemented by a workspace subtly separated by a lightweight metal structure, a cork pinboard, and a long bookshelf. The dining area is defined by a round table with iconic Thonet chairs and a distinctive light fixture.

The overall design is based on simple principles, thoughtful material work, and functional clarity that supports everyday family life.
