VRŠOVICE - FLAT

BRIEF:

The interior of a 53 m² apartment in Prague’s Vršovice district was designed as a flexible space for occasional overnight stays for up to four people, while also serving as a working base for the investors, who use the apartment as an office. The aim of the design was to make maximum use of the limited floor area and to enable comfortable operation in different modes of use.

CONCEPT:

The design works with a combination of preserved original elements and new functional interventions. The original terrazzo flooring is retained in the entrance hall and continues into the new finishes in the bathroom and kitchen, while the original parquet floors in the living room were refurbished. The hallway is conceived as a compact storage zone with a built-in wardrobe, mirrors, and wooden details that help visually enlarge the smaller space.

 

The bathroom is designed as a single shared space with a WC and a walk-in shower, allowing space for a washing machine and technical facilities while simplifying the overall layout of the apartment. The kitchen is extended to its maximum possible length and provides sufficient concealed storage capacity, including built-in appliances. It is connected to the living room by glazed steel double doors, which can be separated with curtains when needed.

 

The main living room is designed as a multifunctional space combining working, relaxation, and sleeping zones. The interior includes a custom furniture wall with a fold-down bed and upper sleeping bunks, allowing guests to stay overnight without disrupting the everyday operation of the apartment. The workspace is complemented by a white lacquered wire mesh, which functions as a pinboard while adding an additional layer of texture to the space.

 

Material-wise, the design is based on a timeless combination of light neutral tones, wood, and terrazzo, complemented by subtle green accents in details and accessories.
