BUBENEC - FLAT

BRIEF:

The primary task was to design the interior of a home for a young couple in an older apartment building in Dejvice. The 3+1 apartment with a total area of 73.1 m² is complemented by a 19 m² east-facing terrace. The main requirements included resolving the kitchen with a dining area, developing a concept for the living room with a built-in library, and designing a sufficient amount of new storage throughout the apartment. An integral part of the brief also included the bedroom, entrance hall, and—with future consideration—the bathroom and terrace connection.

CONCEPT:

The central idea of the interior is a play of white structures and textures in various forms—from mosaic tiles and a white brick wall to built-in cabinetry. White spreads throughout the apartment as a unifying element, complemented by accents of muted pink combined with natural wood.

Houseplants became an essential part of the concept and one of the main visual features. High ceilings and large east-facing windows provide ample daylight and create ideal conditions for plant growth. The light, neutral color palette further enhances this effect, making the apartment feel brighter and more airy.

The interior is subtly zoned. More neutral spaces such as the entrance hall and bathroom are followed by the main living areas, which gradually calm and reduce color accents from the kitchen through the living room to the bedroom with a work corner.

Upon entering the apartment, a compact entrance hall integrates built-in storage with partially open hanging and shoe storage. The opposite wall is lined with a composition of white-framed mirrors of various shapes and sizes, visually enlarging the space. The flooring flows seamlessly and without thresholds from the hall into the kitchen and bathroom, finished in a light grey tone.

The kitchen is defined by a distinctive built-in pink storage wall incorporating the sink area, fridge with freezer, and a steel structure in the same color, which increases plant-growing capacity and creates a coffee preparation zone. The second part of the kitchen is designed as a lighter “prep area” with a stove and oven, without upper cabinets, complemented only by a linear wooden shelf. The absence of wall cabinets is balanced by a full-length bench with integrated storage along the opposite wall. The design also includes a pull-out worktop integrated into the window sill.

The living room is dominated by a library with a linear cantilevered steel rail, along which a movable ladder provides access to higher shelves. A suspended TV cabinet is also part of the composition.

In the bedroom, the space is divided into a small work corner by the window, a sleeping area, and a wardrobe zone. One entire wall is fitted with generous built-in wardrobes made of white laminate with 3D structural detailing on the doors. In both the bedroom and living room, the original wooden parquet floors were restored.
