SPOŘILOV - FLAT
BRIEF:
The primary task was to redesign the layout of a 60 m² apartment, originally arranged as a 2+1, into a 3+kk layout. The aim was to adapt the apartment to the needs of a young, gradually growing family and to maximise the potential of a relatively small floor area.
CONCEPT:
Given the limited size of the apartment and the need for efficient use of space, the design was inspired by the Japanese approach to living, where even a small apartment is perceived as a fully functional and carefully considered whole.
The smallest room was intentionally designed as the bedroom, a space primarily intended for rest. Despite its compact dimensions, built-in wardrobes with sufficient capacity were incorporated, along with space allowing for the placement of a baby cot. The bed was designed on an elevated platform with integrated storage, which also contributes to a greater sense of cosiness in the room.
A significant spatial intervention was the enlargement of the bathroom footprint and the relocation of its entrance. This made it possible to integrate a washing machine and storage on one side, while creating a comfortable walk-in shower on the other.
The children’s room was designed with a strong emphasis on maximum space efficiency. Built-in wardrobes with a library and an integrated bunk bed line the walls, leaving sufficient free floor area for play and everyday activities.
The main living space of the apartment became the living kitchen. During the design process, several layout options for the kitchen, dining area, and seating were explored. Based on an on-site visit, the variant that best responded to the real proportions of the space was selected. Although the kitchen does not appear large at first glance, the worktop was extended by using a built-in bookshelf in a niche, creating space for a coffee machine and small appliances. Additional storage is located beneath this surface.
Material-wise, the design follows a restrained and timeless combination of white surfaces and wood, in the form of plywood and veneer, which brings warmth and a natural character to the interior.
